An art contest in honor of Earth Day 2026 opens March 20 to students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade within the Region D Recycling and Solid Waste Management District.
School-age students in Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton and DeKalb Counties can submit poster, graphic or trash art projects that showcase the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” from March 20 to April 20 for a chance to win prizes.
According to Hayley Howard, Region D Coordinator, this year’s Earth Day theme, developed by earthday.org, is a reminder that people already possess the power to protect the planet by reducing the amount of waste entering landfills, reusing items that still have useful life and recycling materials like aluminum, glass, paper and cardboard to conserve resources.
“We all make choices in our daily lives that have the power to hurt or help the planet,” Howard said. “Calling attention to our choices surrounding waste and its impacts can lead to better decision-making and outcomes for the future.”
The contest rules and submission guidelines are available at the following link: https://www.regiondrecycling.com/index.php/earthday/. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place and honorable mentions based on age group and category. Winners will receive prizes made from recycled materials. All participants will receive a small token from the district.
